quick recollections...the weather was perfect this year...a tail-wind both days! i think on day-1...we made it down to P-town in about 4:15...that's FLYING!!! as always, a tail-wind on day-2 invariably meant a very challenging side-wind for the last 50 miles into columbus. i over-did it driving the pace on day-1 into P-town, and paid the price on day-2 and sat up w/ ~10 miles to go into columbus. i think Pate was the last Major to withstand the pace of the fast group that included some strong guys from other clubs. much love, wally (written march 11, 2005)
